St Wilfrid’s Hospice, as an independent charity, must raise significant sums of money each year in order to pay for the wonderful care provided free of charge to patients, their families and friends. The Hospice’s fundraising team work extremely hard to encourage donations, grants, sponsorship and gifts in Wills. Money is raised through traditional street collections, gala balls and from more unusual activities such as whacky fun runs, challenging overseas treks, sponsored walks and much, much more.
Our Silver Anniversary year promises to be an exciting and eventful year – many of our supporters are already telling us about their plans to help celebrate our 25th Anniversary. If you wish to hold an event for us we’ll be there to help and guide you or you can join in one of our Support Group events.
There are 14 Support Groups throughout our area who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to organising fundraising events on our behalf. Many of them have been functioning since the Hospice opened in 1987. They raise funds in an endless number of ways such as coffee mornings, Bridge drives, fish and chip suppers and quiz nights. Not only do they raise funds for us, they also act as great ambassadors for the Hospice, If you would like to find out how you can join a support group or start a new group call the fundraising team.
However there are many other ways you can help the Hospice. You can give your time as a volunteer, take part in one of the Hospice led events, become a ‘Friend’, join a Support Group or make a donation.
Your support is vital; our annual running costs are £5.6 million and at least 86% has to be raised through voluntary and private sources. This is an enormous challenge for the Hospice but each year we get there thanks to people like you. Making a donation could not be easier. Send a cheque made payable to the Hospice or donate online at www.justgiving.co.uk/stwilfrid’s , come in and see us or become a Friend.
We never cease to be amazed at people’s generosity and are always so very grateful at any amount we receive. Sometimes knowing how much something costs helps our supporters to decide on what they would like to give to the Hospice. For instance, a donation of £2.58 from you would fund meals for one day for an inpatient.
We really could not be without our Friends whose commitment to give a regular gift, usually either monthly or annually, make a huge contribution towards supporting the work of the Hospice. Knowing that we have a regular amount coming in each year means we can plan our finances more effectively.
Charitable Trusts and foundations especially those that are local to the Hospice, give extremely generously often enabling us to complete an area of work which would have been impossible without extra funding. You may know of a trust we are unaware of and which may like the opportunity to support our work.
Gifts in Wills. These gifts are precious to us. They ensure that we are able to carry on our work to benefit our patients who will come to us in the future. Please remember St Willfrid's in your Will.
You might wish to remember a loved one who has been cared for by the Hospice. Donations can be made by cheque, by debit card over the phone, online or in person.
Business Support Why not form a partnership with St Wilfrid’s Hospice? There are many ways in which you can get involved which will make a real difference to our patients’ lives and to you such as gifts in kind, sponsoring an event , payroll giving recycling and making us your charity of the year.
Want to know what’s going? There are many exciting events to choose from. Each year individuals in our community help to raise significant funds towards our running costs, through fundraising in the community. If you wish to hold an event in aid of the Hospice please do let either Jill or Julie know in the fundraising department. We can help to promote your event and give you our support.
There are also plenty of other ways you can help support St Wilfrid’s Hospice. We need collectors for our street collections usually held in Arundel, Bognor and Chichester or you could have your own collection box at home – it is surprising how quickly the pennies mount up! We’re always on the lookout for unwanted presents - they make super raffle prizes! And, if you wish to help out at one of our events why not become a marshal at our Midnight Walk or Santa Sprint & Stroll. We are sure you will have just as much fun as our participants!
If you are an e-bay user you can choose for a percentage of your income to be donated to the Hospice.
You can also recycle and raise funds for St Wilfrid’s and it won’t cost you a penny! Remember your rubbish is our riches! Any of the following items can be donated to the Hospice and help us to continue to raise vital funds for the Hospice:-
- Paper and cardboard
- Printer and toner cartridges
- Mobile phones and i-pods
- Pre-decimal and foreign coins
- Used stamps
- Rags
- CDs
- Cars
The fundraising team are always happy to hear from you as we like to know what’s going on and how we can help you. If you have any queries, want to tell us about an event, would like to volunteer or marshal at our Moonlight Walk or Santa Sprint & Stroll, wish to donate unwanted presents then please call fundraising on 01243 755827.
And finally, the Hospice is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board, the work of which ensures that any money St Wilfrid’s raises from our supporters is done honestly and properly. If you are unhappy with anything we’ve done whilst fundraising please do let us know so that we can rectify the complaint through our complaints procedure.
