Education Centre

St Wilfrid's Hospice Education Centre specialises in providing education for a multidisciplinary audience encompassing doctors, nurses, social workers and all therapists including complementary therapists. There are courses for those already working in palliative care as well as for those wishing to enter this field.   There are also courses for patients and carers.  Indeed, some of our regular sessional teachers are patients and carers.  We offer courses ranging from degree level to one off study days on a variety of topics.

We have several modules of study validated by Winchester University; these include Optimising Health/Pain and Symptom Control, Psycho Social Care and Oncology.  These modules run at Diploma and Degree level.  We hope to have our Diploma in Palliative Care validated in 2007.

Our Certificate in Generic Palliative Care requires attendance on only one day a month attendance and also includes clinical placement days.  This course looks at palliative care for patients with cancer as well as diseases other than cancer.  It is popular with health care professionals from busy units.  It carries the option of collecting Winchester University credits, subject to successful completion of the academic assessments, or the award of our in-house Certificate.  It's your choice.

St Wilfrid's values the place of Complementary Therapies in palliative care.  The Education Centre offers a wide range of courses for qualified Complementary Therapists ranging from:

  • The Certificate in Holistic Palliative Care (CThA approved), for those just starting in palliative care

To:

  • Values in Health Care, lead by Dr Craig Brown, a Trustee of the Holisitic Medical Association

We also run ITEC accredited courses in Anatomy and Physiology, Holistic Massage and Indian Head Massage.

All courses are held in St Wilfrid's fully equipped purpose built seminar room, Students have access to a superbly stocked palliative care library. Lunch and refreshments are provided. There is wheelchair access, easy access from public transport, free car parking nearby and beautiful gardens and a lovely canal walk a few minutes away.   Ample accommodation is available locally - details on request.
