| Complementary Therapies at St Wilfrids Hospice
At St Wilfrids Hospice we use four complementary therapies to help relieve stress and tension, to aid relaxation and promote a sense of well being. The therapies are used alongside medical treatment for patients, or to support relatives or carers.
All treatments are gentle and tailored to individual needs
and stages of illness.
They
can help on all levels: mind, body and spirit
We
have a team of qualified and experienced complementary therapists
offering a choice of therapies to our patients. This is in
addition to the valuable services offered by volunteers who
have been trained to provide hand and foot massage
A course of treatments can be offered and are free of charge.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy massage uses natural plant essential oils for relaxing body massage. It combines the senses of smell and touch.
Body Massage
Body Massage uses an unscented oil or lotion. Hand or foot massage is frequently available as we have many Hospice volunteer workers and nursing staff who are trained to give this.
Reflexology
Reflexology involves massage and specific pressure work on the feet or hands, followed by a relaxing massage of that area.
Reiki
Reiki is an ancient therapy of Eastern origin. The main aim is to bring about balance in mind, body and spirit and improve feelings of well being. You remain fully clothed for this treatment.
Relaxation techniques
To help you relax your body and mind. Group sessions using relaxation techniques take place regularly with other patients during Day Care
