Bereavement care
The
patient and family care specialists work as integral members
of the multi-disciplinary team providing a wide range of psycho-social
care and participating in training, education, planning and
development of the service that we offer to individuals and
families coping with a terminally ill member. When a family
member faces a terminal diagnosis it may feel as if a bombshell
has been dropped on them.
We help individuals and families find ways of dealing with the often unbearable feelings which may beset them at such a time. Our work had always included a core commitment to working with children and young people.
We are able to offer a high level of experience, creativity and suitable materials to young people who often struggle to understand and cope with illness in the family.
We also offer help and support to patients to cope with the many emotional/psychological and social effects of their illness, as well as offering a network of support to carers and relatives. This support may include informing people of resources and benefits which may be available to ease their situation.
Our comprehensive services extends beyond the patients death and bereavement following and support is offered to all who need it.
Susie Norton who
heads up the bereavement service, trains and manages the bereavement
service visitors who bring their richness of experience to
our team.
The bereavement service includes our very popular Open House meetings and coffee mornings which are offered to bereaved relatives.
We can offer more specialist input where necessary, including
Psychotherapy and Counselling if appropriate. As a service
the P.F.C.S seek to place the patient and the family at the
core of their week as part of the holistic approach of St
Wilfrid's.
